tourdiary Hate Eternal tour June/July 2005
Into Eternity is currently touring with Hate Eternal, Krisiun, Incantation (Canadian shows Jungle Rot) and All Shall Perish through the USA, from June 16th - July 24th. They had some pre-tour dates, so the story starts on June 5. Tim's sending updates from the road (sharing an RV with Krisiun), so keep checking in!
Last update July 24 (last tour entry July 21)
June 5, 2005 - USA border
Getting an early start seemed to be a good idea. We left for the USA border and made it there by 12 am. To make a long story short, we got denied and had to waste 4 hours sitting. As it ended up we drove 2 hours home and went to bed at 8 am again.
June 6, 2005 - USA border, take 2
All day was spent on the phone with the label and immigration. It turns out that the border was in the wrong and we did indeed have the correct paperwork! Now we have a 21 hour drive to make it to our first show. On the road again. This time is no problem crossing for us.
June 7, 2005 - Springfield, IL
Driving, driving and more driving. The one good thing about living in a van, is all the country songs we have been writing. I brought my acoustic in the van this time. I think Johnny Cash would be proud.
The rain has been coming down hard for the past 11 hours. There are tornado warnings as well to go with this crazy storm. We have been telling Stu that, "everything will be alright!".
Club 217 is actually a hip hop bar, but that means its nice and clean. The show went well, but there wasn't a big crowd. Still it was a good time. At the end of our set, 2 strippers started making out with each other topless. It was like a scene out of, "girls gone wild".
June 8, 2005 - Davenport, IA
Adam's friend Nate met us at the club Quad City. He lives here in town, so we got to crash at his house. All Shall Perish ended up late, so it was just us and one opener. For supper, Nate took us to Famous Daves Restaurant. The meal was insane BBQ! It will be the best meal of the tour.
June 9, 2005 - East Dubuque, IL
The scenery here in Iowa is really nice. I was expecting it to be flat, but its really green with rolling hills and lots of trees. The club tonight is The Arena. All Shall Perish is here already at 3pm. Basically we hang out and eat with the guys. They are a cool death/hardcore band. The band are cool guys and we will get along just fine I think.
June 10, 2005 - Des Moines, IA
Today we are in the home of Slipknot. I guess they are based here in Des Moines. It's a double show tonight. We are on the early bill and it ends up at 9pm. Nobody told us, but luckily we came to town early today after the long drive. The promoter Gus treated us very well and we hung with him after the show. I wish all promoters were like that. The show itself was killer besides the monitor problems. There were fans that drove up to 5 hours to see us! That made our day for sure. I was blown away by that. It's good to see familiar faces on the road. Its a 9 hour drive now, so an early show ended up being a good thing for us.
June 11, 2005 - Dwell In Darkness Festival
The SMN News Festival is a show that we are looking forward to. Bands are playing on 2 stages all day long and we are on the main stage third from headlining. The one stage is inside the club, but the main is actually in a parkade underneath a highway! People can park their cars and watch a show....ha. We had one of the best responses of the day, with the most fans. It was a fun day of metal. We met a lot of cool bands. After we got hooked up with a place to stay by our new friend Jason. He cooked for us at 2am and bought us beer. It felt like we were home.
June 12, 2005 - Lansing, IL
Today is a 5 hour drive to Lansing. The traffic is sick. No car is moving and the air in our van has died, so we are dying. We could have made it in half the time if there was no construction. We have a lot of friends coming out to the gig. I am blown away that they drive all that way for us. They are more than just fans to us. Shreddy, Warren, ProgMaiden, 12th Gate guys, and Maurizio from Kataklysm. There were more, but I am really bad with names. They are all really great people. The show was small, but everyone has a great time singing along. We brought Maurizio up on stage with us for a cover of "Shadows And Dust", a Kataklysm song. We ended up butchering it though...ha. We haven't seen him since Europe. I consider the guy a true brother.
June 13, 2005 - BBQ with Maurizio
A bargain deal hotel is where we spent the night. In the morning we called Maurizio and went to his house for he entire day.He fired up the BBQ and cooked for us and we had a few beer. It's our day off today, so it worked out perfect. Maurizio entertained us all day by telling us industry stories of every kind. At night we went to a movie. It was the new Adam Sandler one, The Longest Yard. It was ok, but not really up to par.
June 14, 2005 - lunch with Maurizio
In the morning we seviced the van and fixed the air. The temperature at night is still 89 degrees, so its really humid here. In the day we hung at Maurizios again and went for lunch with him. Around 7pm we head back on the construction highways of hell.
June 15, 2005 - Fayetteville, NC
After driving for 16 hours straight, we make it to North Carolina. It's even hotter down here. The club is really cool and all the staff treat us very well. We did great tonight and met a lot of new fans here. I can't wait to come back again. The night was spent fighting off spiders in a cheap hotel. Tomorrow the real tour starts and we are all excited to get going.
June 16, 2005 - West Springfield, VA
The Jaxx is a wicked club and it's our third time here. The staff is really great to us and It's always a good time here. Our faithfull fans have made it again to this show. It seems like a local show here now when we play. There are 300 kids here tonight, so it's a big night for metal. Tonight is the kickoff show for the Hate Eternal tour package that we are a part of. It's a big day for for us because we are retiring the van for the rest of the shows and getting into a 30 foot RV! We are sharing it with Krisiun, soundguy and the merchandiser. There are 10 of us in it and 10 beds. The owner/driver is a guy we call Dutch because he is from Holland, just like our webmaster Marlies. The RV has a cool slide out section in the living room that doubles the size. The Krisiun guys are really cool and we ended up meeting Incantation as well. Hate Eternal were soundchecking, but I talked to them all soon after. Its great to see those guys again. It has been 2 and 1/2 years already. All the bands crush tonight. I was really blown away by Krisiun. The guitar player Mo just kills every song. This is going to be a really heavy tour.
June 17, 2005 - Poughkeepsie, NY
What can I say about The Loft??? The load in should kill most bands attempting to play. The stairs are crazy and narrow. The food is great if you like cheese pizza. The neighbourhood is fine if you like getting shot. The main thing is to kick ass for the fans that came, which they did. The show was good. Dean showed up to see us and that was nice. He sang for us on our tour of Europe in October. It was good to see him again. All Shall Perish broke down, so they ended up headlining after Hate Eternal so they could play. Most of the fans left, but they played hard anyway.
June 18, 2005 - playing and seeing Manowar/Rhapsody in Worcester, MA!
I can't remember what a shower feels like anymore. It's a good thing we all smell like fresh flowers 90% of the time.Today we are in Worcester. The Palladium Theater is split into 2 sides. Our package is doing the smaill stage and Manowar are doing the big side. This is a great city for us to play. Our type of metal always goes over really well here. After we played a fan showed us her brand new Into Eternity tattoo. I thought that was cool. The best part of the night was watching Manowar/Raphsody play. Both bands were fucking great. All the bands went into the balcony and watched the show. I never thought I'd see either band in the USA.
June 19, 2005 - day off in New York city
This will be our only day off for the next 21 days straight. We all decide to explore New York city for the entire day. The city is a bit culture shock to me. Everything is so extreme here. In the afternoon we took a break and checked out the new Batman movie. Rob and I went and saw the Manowar show again at BB Kings. The head of security Jerry got us in for free. What a great guy. What another great day on tour. This is turning into more of a vacation for us.
June 20, 2005 - embassy paperwork, Philadelphia, PA
Today Krisiun, Adam and Ben (merch) got up at 8am and spent 8 hours at The Embassy to get the proper paperwork to get into Canada. I felt bad for those guys. In the day we got the video camera out and Troy and Rob busked on the street making money. They each had an acoustic guitar. It was too funny.
The stress began trying to get to Philly for our show. The whole day was killed, so we had to haul ass. Incantation went on early so we could do a quick set. The show had to be over by 11pm. Philly is like coming home. The crowd is so great to us. We had a good time talking to everyone after the show. I'm bad with names, but we are getting to know the same fans. They know who they are though!
June 21, 2005 - Quebec City, QC
It only took 1 hour for us to cross into Canada. I think we did good. Quebec City is a place that's new to our band. We have never been this far east before in Canada. The load in is absolutely insane with crazy winding stairs 4 flights. We all decide to share gear for this show. Our gig was ok. The fans weren't as into us as we hoped, but it was still ok. This is the first show with Jungle Rot taking Incantaion's spot. Hate Eternal ended up sitting at the border for 4 hours and then breaking down an hour away. The promoter picked them up and drove them to the gig just in time. They hopped into our RV and we drove them to get their van. Hopefully they can make it to Montreal tomorrow.
June 22, 2005 - Montreal, QC
Stephane, the promoter in Montreal is a standup guy. He hooked up all the bands with everything we needed. The club is in a block off the street in a cool area of Montreal that has a feel of Europe. There are outside coffee shops and cobblestone roads. It's a perfect day for metal. Montreal is the metal capital of Canada, so we are happy to play here again. All the bands had great sets. Krisiun and Hate Eternal continue to amaze me with their skills. The best part of the day is that we all get to shower. I have made a new personal record on this tour for myself. Every venue should have that option.
June 23, 2005 - Ottawa, ON
This is first for the band today because we have never played Ottawa before. The show is in a small bar, but that will just make the show more intimate. Hate Eternal did a funny version of "Rock You Like A Hurricane" for the soundcheck. Those guys have a good sense of humor. Quite a few fans drove in to see us and that's always great to hear. Our set turned out well for the most part. The crowd was great tonight and I hope we get to come back soon. We ended up meeting a lot of new fans.
June 24, 2005 - Toronto, ON
Toronto rules! This was the best crowd we have played to in a while. Everyone was singing along and on fire. I say fire because it was 130 degrees in the club. That was almost the hottest show we have ever played, probably only to Tampa. The was no oxygen on
stage, but it didn't matter. The crowd gave us lots of energy to draw from. We have to play here again soon. The promoter Noel was also a right on guy. He hooked the band up with everything. For supper we went to a cool Mexican restaurant and he paid for the meals. The scene here rules!
June 25, 2005 - Buffalo, NY
The show tonight was in Buffalo. The club was cool, but 110 degrees inside.
It was cool to meet up again with Incantation. They are great guys and nice
to talk with. John has been in the industry for years, so I am always
interested in hearing those stories. In the afternoon we went to see Land Of
The Dead at a local theater. The movie was good, but need more zombie action
I thought. Our show was pretty good. All the bands played well. Krisiun had
to headline because Hate Eternal's van was still fucked up. They had a killer
set though. That whole band has so much talent.
June 26, 2005 - New York, NY
BB King's is the best club. I love coming here and it's not just because of
all the free beer and air conditioning. We are turning out to have a lot of
fans in the New York area. Now we have friends when we come to this venue.
Tonight's show was a bit stressful because of a large lineup. Tonight went :
- All Shall Perish
- Jungle Rot
- Into Eternity
- Incantation
- Krisiun
- Hate Eternal
The bands sets had to be trimmed down though, which hurt. We ended up
playing only 4 songs, but they were damn well fun anyway. There were a lot
of metal celebrities here tonight. Not only did our show go very well, but
we got really loaded afterwards. Guys from Suffocation, Mortician, Dying
Fetus etc. were there. Plus, Richard Christy was hanging out with us. We
were big fans of his work with Death and Iced Earth even. He worked for the
Howard Stern show now, but he still supports the metal. He also had some
nice things to say about Into Eternity. He ended up watching our set. It was
a perfect day of playing and hanging out.
June 27, 2005 - Utica, NY
After dropping Krisiun off at a Motel 6, we head to the venue/bar. The area is really gangsta and tough. Every car that drives by, stares us down, as the rap is at deafening levels. Tonight is a one off show for us in the middle of some New York town. The metal brothers are promoting this show tonight, but they are dissapointed with the turnout. The guys do treat us good though, so that was cool. It turned out to be a sort of a festival setting show in a 500 square foot bar. It was too hot to stay inside, so we hung on the deck all night and chatted with some new friends we made. Our show was actually a lot of fun, considering we were louder than the tiny PA and there were no monitors. Thanks to Sherri for the beers onstage!
June 28, 2005 - Cleveland, OH
This is our third time in Cleveland. It can be a hit or miss for us crowdwise. Tonight we got lucky and the crowd was kind to us. Hate Eternal, Krisiun and Incantation did really good as well. It was a decent turnout. In the day Dutch and I went to see the new Star Wars movie again. I still think its a great flick and it was a good way to kill the extra time we had.
June 29, 2005 - Detroit, MI
Alvins in Detroit is an extremely hot club. Hot as in it felt like my skin was melting as we were playing. It was the hottest show of the tour. This was our very first time in Detroit. The turnout was only about 50 people and that was a bit sad. Half of the fans though drove up to see us! We met so many die hard fans. I was really blown away. I'm really bad with names, but they know who they are. Thanks to Eric and Keith for hooking us up. Also thanks to Brian and Jeremy (Signs Of Collapse) for helping us with the gear!
June 30, 2005 - Omaha, NE
Tonight we had to drive back to Toledo to get the Krisiun merch. Then we had to drive to the Omaha show. All in all Dutch put in 12 hours straight to get us there at 5pm. As we were sleeping, Rob got left at a truck stop! An hour later he got a hold of us and Dutch retrieved him! Ha... luckily everything worked out.
Incantation got to the venue at 2pm and waited all day for the promoter. Apparently there were 2 of the same named venues in this city. All the bands and fans were at the wrong one?? After a few phone calls it was determined that the promoter went home and cancelled the show. We were all left with a 12 hour drive for nothing and we hung out in a parking lot all night! We feel terrible for all the fans that made the trek to see us. I guess the show was not meant to be.
July 1, 2005 - Adam's hometown Minneapolis, MN
Minneapolis is always good to us. Tonight's show was no exception. The fans gave us their all. Hate Eternal had to cancel, but the show went on with us, Incantation and Krisiun. Adam's family came out to see him, which was cool. They are all good people. After the show all 3 bands went to eat at an amazing pasta place a block from the venue. It was our last supper because Incantation aren't on the Canadian shows.
July 2, 2005 - Winnipeg, MB
With Jungle Rot not doing the Canadian shows, that left just us and Krisiun to continue. Hate Eternal will be joining us again in Vancouver. And then there were 2! Winnipeg is home away from home for us. It's a great feeling to be back in Canada. The show went off without a hitch and we were taken care of. We had one local band open the show, so there were just 3 bands. All the fans seemed to understand, which is great.
July 3, 2005 - show cancelled in Regina, SK
It's really a shame that our hometown show was cancelled along with Calgary and Edmonton. I know we could have had a great turnout if we could have had the chance. That is about as much as I want to say about this subject. I'm just more dissapointed than anything really.
July 4-5, 2005 - Regina, SK, chilling at home
Everybody stayed at my house and we chilled out and watched movies. It was nice to have time to shower and take care of business at home. Now everybody has their batteries recharged for the rest of the tour.
July 6, 2005 - Prince George, BC
Prince George is another first for us in Canada. It is a breathtaking trip to get here, but it was worth it. The turnout was really small for
the show, but the club was first class. Hopefully next time there will be more word of mouth about the show. Most of the staff didn't even know we were coming!!?
July 7, 2005 - Stu's hometown Vancouver, BC
Vancouver rules! It's Stu's hometown, so everyone came out. The Red Room is a nice club with professional staff. Hate Eternal made it, so we tried to catch up with them and their van problems. It feels like this tour is cursed.. ha!
July 8, 2005
Seattle is the home of a lot of famous bands, but Nevermore would have to be my favorite. Studio Seven is a neat club. It has a balcony for drinking and the floor for all ages. It also houses rehearsal rooms for lots of bands. The show for us went amazing! The crowd was singing every word and the room was electric. Thanks to Cortney for renting a car and driving into the USA. We met a lot of new fans and we should be back really soon. Seattle RULES!
July 9, 2005
Today Dutch and I went to see The Fastastic Four. It was the highlight of the day. We got to Portland early, so we had a lot of time to kill. All the bands were hanging in front of the club waiting to load in and there was a variety of street people walking around entertaining. One old guy had an out of tune acoustic guitar and dressed like a wizard. I wish we would have gotten a photo of that. The show itself was merely ok for us. It seemed like they didn't really know who we were. I know we turned a few heads though. We got spoiled from Seattle.
July 10, 2005
Testament played The Pound the night before and the venue was completely trashed. I guess they played outside and 2000 people were there. It sucks that we missed the show by one lousy day. Testament was the first show I ever saw back in 1990. Adam found a Testament drumstick under the stage. He has eagle eyes. Our show went very well. San Fan always treats us so well. The staff was also pro at this club. It's great to be back in California again.
July 11, 2005
Today was just a day off, so we parked the RV at a Motel 6 and got a couple of rooms. In the day we went and saw a movie called Dark Water. It really wasn't my type of movie. I was waiting the entire 2 hours for something to actually happen. Maybe I should stick to playing music instead of review movies. Too bad I'm addicted to going to the theater.
July 12, 2005
For some reason Orangevale is 40 degrees warmer than San Fran. So far this is the hottest day on tour. The outside temperature is close to 120!!! I walk out of the air conditioned RV and I can feel my skin literally burning. The show is at a cool club called The Boardwalk. There are guitars on the wall from all the famous bands that have played here. All Shall Parish are playing tonight as they did last night. These are their last 2 shows for this tour. It was good to see those guys again. Our set went very well! It was our first time here, but the crowd all had our album. I hope we can come back again soon. Hopefully it will be cooler then....ha!
July 13, 2005
L.A. is an amazing city. On Sunset Strip you see either famous models walking around or street people living on sidewalks. The Key Club is a top class venue. Everybody gets lots to drink and eat before the show. Our label is here tonight so of course we are plagued with some instrument issues. Troy's bass head decided to blow a minute before we are on. Everything did get worked out, but it was stressful. The show went pretty well. The crowd seemed to enjoy our set. Afterwards we hung out at the Rainbow Bar and Grill. The place where all the famous stars hang. After closing, everybody when to Dino's ( Fear Factory) house to party. At the end of the night Dino gave Moyses ( Krisiun) one of his custom Ibanez guitars!! He was pretty shocked.
July 14, 2005
We crashed in the RV in the lot of Century Media. The label took us all out for lunch in the day. Then Heather (CM) took Rob,Stu and I to KNAC for a radio interview. Phil is a big supporter of our band, so it was cool to see him again. After that it was a 2 hour drive to Santa Ana for our show at The Galaxy. The crowd here was one of the best of the tour. A lot of fans drove up to see us and it's great to see some of the same faces. This is one of the best places to play for us in the whole USA. Another highlight was hanging backstage with Chris, the guitar player for Jag Panzer.
July 15, 2005
Goodbye nice temperatures of California and say hello to 120 degrees in Tempe, Arizona. It is too damn hot in this city. The best part of the day was going to an In-N-Out Burger place. What a great way to start the day. The clubhouse was a cool club. Our show was very good. The crowd was on fire tonight. I wasn't expecting such a warm welcome. We packed up and left around 3am and headed for the highway. On the way a SUV came speeding at us! It missed us by an inch, smashed into a carwash and got stuck inside. There was water shooting everywhere. The driver got out and ran from the scene. Just ahead of us there was a break in and the police weren't far away. I came an inch from that SUV hitting my side and killing me! What a night. Rob got it all filmed in his camcorder.
July 16, 2005
Today we are in New Mexico in a small club. The temperatures are still blistering. Our show went fairly well, but not as good as the previous 2 shows. It was still a good night though. Nothing too exciting happened today, but that is ok with me after last night!
July 17, 2005
It was supposed to be a day off, but Incantation got us and Krisiun a show in El Paso, Texas. The club owner hooked us up with a hotel, so we chilled all day and showered. The people at the show were hardcore satanic Mexicans, so they didn't seem to care for us too much.... ha! I was happy to get out of town before we got stabbed.
July 18, 2005
Who needs to breathe air? That's what it is like here in San Antonio. The humity is just unreal. I have never been in weather like this. At least there is air in the RV and club.. woo! Strapping Young Lad drove to the club because they had a day off. They have an insane tour bus. I think Jed checked out our set, so that was cool. The show was pretty good except for the white lights that were shining down on us. It made it impossible to see the fretboard and play the right notes. We ended up pulling it off. The whole night people thought Rob was the drummer of Incantation (Kyle). He was approahed by fans half a dozen times. This is the second night that this has happened. Rob eventually ended up just going with it. He explained to the kids that he is one of the best drummers in the world.. ha!
July 19, 2005
We haven't been to Houston in almost 3 years. It's good to be back here. The club is in a shifty area, but the turnout was actually really good. We had a lot of friends and fans come to the gig. Hate Eternal had to cancel because their trailer broke down, so it was just us, Incantation and Krisiun headlining. We got to play an 8 song show, so the fans got their money's worth tonight I hope. Rob wore a "I'm Not Kyle " piece of paper taped to his shirt at the merch table. Kids were going up to him asking about drumming.. ha! Thanks to all the new people we met at the show. Our friend Angela brought us booze, which was cool. A friend of ours even flew to the show from Kansas! That was pretty cool I thought.
July 20, 2005
Today was a day off, so we got a couple rooms at the Motel 6. Dutch and I went to see Wedding Crashers. That was a very funny movie. I have to go see it again when I get home on the 28th.
July 21, 2005
Atlanta is always a great place to play. The club is really pro and the staff treated us great. It was cool to see the same fans here as when we played with Amorphis in March. The last time we had to play as a 3 piece, so tonight it was rewarding to finally pay the fans back with a full band. The crowd was amazing as always. It makes me remember why I play in a band. Thanks to all that came out. You all rule!
