Looking back on the Japan trip / tour collage

Hello All!

The band is back home now in Canada (Steve lives in Boston) after another couple of successful tours. The Symphony X/Epica/Into Eternity US Tour was one of the best we have ever had. The US crowds are killer and we love playing south of our border! After the tour was over, we played a headlining gig and then a sold out show in Pittsburgh with Children Of Bodom. I have never seen such a brutal pit and stage diving! It was an insane crowd, so thanks to COB for letting us play the show with them. They are a great band.

Next up was a 25 hour plane ride to Osaka, Japan. A big hello to all of the crew and bands we played with on the Extreme The Dojo Vol.20! Also thank you to Toys Factory and Smash West for bringing us to Japan for the very first time. Some people were saying that the Japanese crowd would be more quiet than we were used to. The crowds we played for were great! They were chanting, starting pits and clapping before we even entered the stage. This is a tour that we will never forget. I could not believe how cool all the fans were. They would be waiting at the hotel lobby for pictures and autographs and some were at the bullet train as well! The band got treated like real professionals on that tour and we hope to come back for our new album “The Incurable Tragedy”. The Osaka show was great. I had no idea that the fans would know the words to our songs in every city, but I guess that is the power of the internet nowadays. In Nagoya we played in a shopping mall and at the top was a cool rock venue called Club Quattro. Playing Tokoyo was also a dream come true. We got there a day early, so half of the band went sightseeing, but Stu and I went to Toys Factory and did some interviews with some big Japan mags like Burrn, Eat and my favorite, Young Guitar! I remember as a kid ordering the Young Guitar Yngwie Malmsteen instructional VHS tapes. They changed my playing style from that day forward. Yngwie is my favorite guitar player of all time. I’m glad to see him on the cover of the new Guitar World as well. Shred guitar is finally back in!!

Thanks to all the fans who came out on all of our recent shows. Next up is Summer Slaughter in Canada. We’ll be back out soon. Keep it metal!!!

Highlights of the Symphony X tour

Hello everybody!

We just finished our last show w/ Symphony X and Epica and all we can say is that the tour was killer! Everyone from the bands to the crew were super cool. It truly was one of our best touring experiences we’ve had. We can’t express enough gratitude to the Symphony X guys for taking us out and allowing us to play to such a diverse and progressive crowd. We also were amazed to the extent of fans that came out as a result of our exposure with last years Gigantour and the amazing tour we had with Dream Theater.

There are too many highlights of this tour to fit into one update, but among the ones that stood out the most was hanging with Mike Portnoy in Philly. Mike took the time to come and say hello. Mike is a solid guy and we can’t thank him enough for his tireless support of Into Eternity. Next was Quebec city when we got a chance to hang w/ Jason from Symphony X for the first time. We won’t forget ever as we ended up stumbling into a bar, ordering drinks and pizza… and then realizing we were rocking a gay bar in Quebec…haha. All of Cali was amazing as well. We got a chance to hang w/ our label, party with our Ibanez reps and drink a few cold ones with Ray Alder (Fates Warning, Redemption) as well as Nick from Redemption. It’s been a while since we got to play Texas and we want to thank all the fans that came out and supported us out there. We were really hoping to run into ol’ George Dubbya or Pantera but unfortunately none of them made it, even though they were on the list! The Florida shows were great too with the highlight being St. Petersburg. They were cheering us on before we even hit the stage!

One of the most amazing things to happen though was being able to meet Shannon Hamm and Scott Clendenin of Death and Control Denied. We got a chance to sit down with Shannon Hamm and were captivated by the stories of the last years of Chuck, Death and the inside stories of Control Denied. It truly was a night we will never forget! The very last show was the insanity of West Virginia and Jaxx! The night included silly string, nerf darts and escalated to pounds of hot meat and cheese with healthy amounts of mayo, onstage sword fighting, the mad chugging of Tequila and a Symphony X set with guest vocals of Stuie B!

There are too many stories from this tour to put into one update. Thanks to all the fans and friends that came out to this tour and we’ll see you again after the new album drops!
Thank you to Symphony X, to the crew for being so awesome and treating us not like an opening band, but with respect and friendship.

Keep it Metal!

Hello from the road

Hello everybody!

We are almost halfway done our USA tour with Symphony X and Epica. This has been another very successful tour again for us! Every crowd is absolutely insane and a lot of the crowds have been chanting for an encore from us….ha. The band has been going on very early at most venues, so usually we are onstage at 6.30pm or 7pm.

Today we are in amazing Seattle. The crowds here always rule and it is an amazing city by the water. Today I got Romeo to teach me a few tricks. That guy is the next level type of shred player and he is a super nice guy. The new Symphony X is an amazing record. Everybody on this tour has been really cool, from the all the crew to all of the musicians.

After this tour ends we get to do a one off show with Children Of Bodom. It will be a special show with just the 2 bands. I have always wanted to play with them and hopefully I’ll be able to learn a few new guitar tricks as well! We are also excitied about our Japan dates that we have coming up. It’s going to be a killer year of supporting “The Incurable Tragedy”. Keep it metal!

Also I would like to give props to Madison Amps for hooking me up with a killer new rig and Ibanez guitars for hooking up Justin with his new axe!

Tour update / album details & new song posted!

leaving for the tour

Hello everyone,

Things are going great on our small headlining tour to the East coast, where we meet up with Epica and Symphony X. The Winnipeg show and the St.Paul gig were the 2 best so far, but we have met many cool people at all the venues. We had a blown tire on the RV already and customs held us for 3 hours at the border, while they put the RV in a parking garage and put us in a small, white brick waiting room. Our band can survive anything and we have made every show regardless. Nothing will stop this machine! The RV just made it to Des Moines yesterday and the highway was shut down due to a blizzard and car accidents! We were stuck on the interstate in a blizzard behind a mile of non moving traffic. Of course we still made the gig and had a cool show!

Today (I’m writing the 1st) is April Fools Day, so Stu and Troy woke up our tour manager KAT in her hotel room and told her the RV was broken into…ha! I’m sure she is really hating our guts already. We might have to make a post on Blabbermouth soon for a new tour manger!

Thanks to all of our killer die hard fans that have been coming out to support us. You all rule!

Century Media:

For proof that from great suffering comes great art, look no further than Into Eternity founding guitarist/principal songwriter Tim Roth. Much as he drew inspiration from his mother’s passing when writing the band’s critically acclaimed 2006 release, “The Scattering Of Ashes”, Roth again found the strength and resilience to turn negatives into positives on the “extreme progressive metal” band’s forthcoming release, “The Incurable Tragedy”.

Into Eternity‘s first concept album, “The Incurable Tragedy” was inspired by the deaths of Roth‘s two best friends, brothers who succumbed to cancer within two months of one another. To make matters worse, when the band began demoing new material shortly after the completion of the Scattering tour — a star-making year of shows that saw the band perform alongside such internationally renowned acts as Dream Theater, Lamb of God, Megadeth, Opeth, Arch Enemy, The Haunted and Dark Tranquillity — Roth‘s father was diagnosed with cancer as well. Showing no mercy, the disease claimed his life last year, just 10 days before Christmas.

Roth channeled his emotions into a moving and riveting album, due out on Century Media Records this summer. This spring, however, the band will take a break from the studio to tour throughout North America with like-minded progressive metal shredders Symphony X. That trek will be followed by the band’s first tour of Japan, where they will perform alongside At The Gates, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Mayhem and Pig Destroyer at the prestigious “Extreme The Dojo” festivals.

To tide fans over until the release of “The Incurable Tragedy”, the band has posted on their MySpace (www.myspace.com/officialintoeternity) an unmastered rough mix of a brand new song, “‘Diagnosis Terminal”, which they will perform live at each of their spring concerts. The track is classic Into Eternity, featuring a heavy groove, stop-on-a-dime time changes, reflective lyrics, a memorable chorus, a string-shredding solo, and vocals that range from guttural growls to soaring harmonies.

“‘Diagnosis Terminal” is one of the heaviest songs on the new record,” Roth says. “The song started with a chorus I had written. Justin (Bender, guitars) then sent me a MP3 demo of a few killer riffs he had, and the song was born. The key I had my chorus in didn’t match the pitch of his new riffs, so that’s how we came up with the idea of having the same chorus, but in two different keys. I think it sounds clever now, but it was actually just a mistake!

“The whole song has some wacked-out time changes, but we tried to make it all sound as smooth as we could,” he continues. “It’s tough to make off-time riffs sound natural, but that is the fun of playing in a progressive metal band. I really enjoy the interlude in the middle and the end of the song. On the new record, we have a few riffs in 9/8 and the main solo in “‘Diagnosis” is a good example of that.

“After we finished up the music, Stu (Block, vocals) came in and wrote all the melodies and lyrics, and the song “‘Diagnosis Terminal” was born. The whole band was involved in this song, and I’m really happy with the way it all turned out.”

More information on “The Incurable Tragedy” will be revealed at www.myspace.com/officialintoeternity and www.intoeternity.net in the coming weeks.

Canada/USA/Japan tour

rehearsal

Hello everyone,

The band has been rehearsing at our sub-freezing jam spot for 2 weeks solid. We have no heat in the place, so we’re trying to rip scales with fingers that won’t move. If we can play these songs, in these temperatures, then we should just fine on a heated stage!

There are some Canadian and USA headlining shows coming up, so we want to be prepared. Also, we are throwing in a few old songs that have never been done before. One of the songs we haven’t played since 2001. Hopefully that will make our long time fans happy on this tour. I think we will also be testing 3 new tracks from our new unreleased album. We get to hang out with Sacrifice at the Winnipeg Metal Festival, so that is going to be a highlight of the year for me. Sacrifice was one of the first thrash shows that I ever went to as a 14 year old kid and that’s what inspired me to play metal.

So we’ll be headlining in Canada and out to the East Coast. We’ll hook up with the Symphony X Tour and tour the USA (a few Canadian shows too!). Then we’ll jump on a plane in Boston and tour in Japan!

I also want to say hello to all of our friends on myspace. We just passed the 30,000 mark! We should have a demo track up for everyone to hear in April!

We’ll see everybody out on the road soon!

Demoing our new album

Hello everyone,

It’s a new year now and we are almost done all the music in demo form for our new album. Stu has actually come over to my house and belted out his first vocal for a new track. We are demoing on my computer, so my living room is now a studio.
The new songs are sounding really good and really heavy! We are hoping to get into the studio in mid-February.

I also am putting up some more live show dates, so check them out. We’ll be back on the road soon!

Working on concept album & touring with Symphony X and Epica in 2008!

Hello everyone,

We are officially done touring for “The Scattering Of Ashes”. We ended up doing 150 shows and being away for close to 200 days of the year! The whole band did a great job, as it’s not always easy being away from home for so long, but I think it’s important to do it the old-school way and tour as much as we can. No one can say we’re a lazy band!

Our last tour was with Edguy, Light This City and Echoes Of Eternity. It was a big success for us, so we want to thank those bands again. It was cool bonding with all the bands and ‘bro-ing down’ with them at 4:20. This touring cycle, we also got to tour with Megadeth, Lamb Of God, Opeth, Arch Enemy, Overkill, Sanctity, The Smash-Up, Destruction, Hirax, Municipal Waste, The Haunted, Dark Tranquillity, Scar Symmetry, Redemption and the mighty Dream Theater! We ended up doing five full U.S. tours on this cycle, and they all were special to us. Playing with Megadeth and Dream Theater each night was a real dream come true!

Right now we are home in Canada awaiting the cold chill of winter. It is supposed to snow tomorrow, so I’ll be in front of my warm computer composing new riffs for the next album. For the first time ever, we will be doing a concept album. Stu and I are working on the lyrics right now. It’s always good to keep moving forward and to try new things, and this is something that we have always wanted to do. We have done two songs already, and it’s turning out really cool. We’ll keep you posted in the future as things start to progress further.

Today EnterTheVault.com have revealed dates for Symphony X‘ 2008 North American headlining tour with support from Epica and Into Eternity! Check out the April/May dates on our tour page. Tickets will be available exclusively at EnterTheVault.com through November 24th. They will then be available via regular outlets.

Thanks to all our fans for supporting us, and we’ll see you again in 2008!

Into Eternity kicks off Edguy tour; new guitar lesson series posted online

Edguy posterCentury Media:

After spending the summer months touring arenas alongside Dream Theater, the Canadian quintet Into Eternity heads back to the clubs tonight for a month-long run as direct support to Edguy, with Echoes of Eternity and Light This City rounding out the bill. This trek marks the group’s fifth and likely final Stateside run in support of their critically acclaimed album, “The Scattering Of Ashes”. Be sure to visit www.myspace.com/officialintoeternity for their complete touring itinerary.

Due to popular demand, Tim Roth (guitars, vocals) recently posted several new, amazing guitar lessons on his YouTube page. Check it out at the link below.

http://www.youtube.com/user/timrothintoeternity

Roth states: “The Dream Theater tour was a dream come true for us. All of our interludes and progressive parts come from DT, so it was amazing to get to know them. It’s a great feeling to meet people that you look up to and they end up being really nice people. I have never seen players that good in my life! The whole tour was a lot of fun and we ended up getting to play in some huge venues.

“We are just about to start the last tour for “The Scattering Of Ashes” campaign with Edguy, Echoes Of Eternity and Light This City. We are direct support to Edguy and toured with them in 2005, so I know the shows will be killer. Now, we have a much bigger fan base and we can’t wait to see everybody on the road.”

Into Eternity recently shot a stunning conceptual video for the track, “Timeless Winter”, with up-and-coming director Don Thompson, and its stunning imagery is sure to help it stand apart from the pack. The video is featured in the group’s new E-Card, which also has all of Roth’s YouTube guitar lessons, in addition to a new photo gallery. Click the link below to check it out.

Update from the Dream Theater tour

Hello everyone,

Things have been going great on the road. Slowly each night we are gaining some new fans. Thanks to Mike Portnoy for hooking us up with this tour! Redemption is also doing good on this tour and it’s cool to see Ray Alder sing every night.
Today Stu decided to wear a new, but wrinkled shirt. We showed James LaBrie the shirt and needless to say Stu changed his shirt…ha! If James says to change, then you do it ha! John even offered me to try his guitars out. All of Dream Theater is a class act.
Hopefully we’ll see everybody on the road very soon! Keep it metal!
